Russian Hackers Infiltrate JPMorgan Chase In Retaliation For Sanctions

(Michael Riley)  Russian hackers attacked the U.S. financial system in mid-August, infiltrating and stealing data from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and at least one other bank, an incident the FBI is investigating as a possible retaliation for government-sponsored sanctions, according to two people familiar with the probe.

The attack, which occurred in mid-August, resulted in the loss of gigabytes of sensitive data, and authorities are investigating whether recent infiltrations of major European banks using a similar vulnerability are also linked to the attack, one of the people said.

In one case, the hackers used a zero-day vulnerability in one of the banks’ websites, then plowed through layers of elaborate security to steal the data, a feat several security experts said appeared far beyond the capability of ordinary criminal hackers. The incidents occurred at a low point in relations between Russia and the West, as Russian troops continue to mass on the Ukrainian border and the West tightens sanctions aimed at crippling Russian companies, including some of the country’s most important banks.

The sophistication of the attack and technical indicators extracted from the banks’ computers provide some evidence of a government link, but the trail is muddy enough that investigators are considering the possibility that it’s cyber criminals from Russia or even elsewhere in Eastern Europe. Other federal agencies, including the National Security Agency, are now aiding the investigation, a third person familiar with the probe said.

“The way the Russians do it, to the extent we can see into the process, is they encourage certain targets,” said James Lewis, director of the Strategic Technologies program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies inWashington. “The Russians typically keep open the options to do something more, and the question now is what would trigger that and what would our response be.”

Calls to JPMorgan for comment were not immediately returned.

You know, a lock box and a key has far fewer vulnerabilities. Maybe it’s time to reacquire real wealth and not one’s and zero’s.

As long as it is in your possession. You put anything in a bank safety deposit box and you may as well deposit it.

Did I just see Thomas Jefferson shed a tear of joy?

  • Bob Smith

I heard that this time around there will be no banker bailouts but instead banker bail-ins (bankers steal the depositor’s money). I wonder if they will steal our money and blame it on the Russians.

Please tell me you do not keep your money in these fraud machines called “banks”, do you? No interest being paid…pimple-faced tellers actually inquiring what you want to withdraw your own money for….I’d suggest it is a good practice to only keep enough cash in account to make monthly bills.

Curious article I just read…about how a visit to the state fairgrounds this summer enlightened the visitor to the fact everything had DOUBLED in price. Everything that was $1-$2 last summer is now $5.

I’d suggest holding US Fiat paper printed by unauditied Zionist NWO globalists are not the “wisest” investment.

They are doing everything they can to start a war with Russia, that is how desperate they are to prop up the dollar just a little bit longer.

Secondly, I have warned friends and relatives for several years now that if they can’t hold it in their hands, they don’t really have it. A lot of people are going to lose everything because there will be no bailouts this time, they are going to take your money and give you worthless bank stocks.

Call me crazy… go ahead… I don’t care anymore. Just remember reading this when it happens because it is going to happen and soon.

Propaganda. Oh, those scary Russian bogiemen hacking us! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! They were probably looking for the MF Global funds JP Morgan STOLE from DEPOSITORS at MF Global.

Yes, I am so scared of Russian hackers…..as opposed to my own government hacking us 24/7……

“trail is muddy enough that investigators are considering the possibility that it’s cyber criminals from Russia or even elsewhere in Eastern Europe”

Ok, so they’re talking bull**it again. Case closed.

Is this really Russians or it is the Reichstag fire set by JPMorgue preparing client for imminent collapse?

  • Silverbug

Lolol yes blame Russia for everything. What MOPE. Next they will be blamed for a Hurricane wreaking havoc on Florida.

  • Alan Greenspan

Russia and Putin are the newly created boogeyman for the dying amerikan Zio-Trotskyite-Bankster empire so its quite possible that the only ones who plundered JPMorgan–is JPMorgan. What a nice scapegoat–the Russians. I can hear them at JPMorgan, “Say Hymie let’s steal a few billions from our own bank and blame it on the Russians.”

And how much money did JPMorgan plunder amerikan taxpayers through the Bankster bailout? Trillions.
